This innovative single malt, from Batch 3 of the Virgin Oak Series, has undergone a second maturation in Hungarian oak. Master Distiller Billy Walker's quest for the unusual led him to the Zemplén Forest mountains in northeastern Hungary. The region's rocky, volcanic soil, combined with the cold, high altitude, encourages slow growth of the trees, resulting in a dense, close-grained oak – ideal conditions for maturing the spirit. To experiment with this rare oak, we toasted and charred the barrels before bottling our complex spirit. As one of the world's first single malts to be finished in Hungarian virgin oak (Quercus Petraea), you can expect a surprisingly distinctive whisky with a silky richness and a fragrant, balanced character. Bottled at 48% ABV, this whisky is naturally colored and non-chill filtered.
