First released 25 years ago in 1997, Ardbeg 17 Years Old was one of the first bottles released after the distillery's relaunch. Its exceptionally delicate yet unmistakably Ardbeg character captivated the hearts of the committee members and set an extraordinary standard for future whiskies. Thought unlikely to return after his retirement in 2004, this return has been in the making for a long time. A quarter of a century after the first recipe was created, Master Distiller Dr. Bill Lumsden has meticulously crafted this release, meticulously retracing the original flavor profile note by note, bottling it at the same 40% ABV as it was originally. A captivating minerality rises above the distinctive warm, medicinal undertones, bursting with sweet smoke and maltiness, and a robust peat presence with hints of tar and oak. Bottled as an homage to those who started it all, this whisky was destined to return someday and is a chill-filtered product with an ABV of 40%.
