This exquisitely sweet and nutty small batch release marks Glenmorangie's first time finishing in rare Palo Cortado sherry casks, a 12-year maturation that brings a new elegance to the Highland distillery's signature delicate style. The single malt was gently matured in American white oak bourbon casks for the first eight years, and Dr Bill, captivated by its silky, smooth character, decided to transfer a select batch to finish in Palo Cortado casks, previously unused by Glenmorangie. Palo Cortado is the rarest of sherry styles, created purely by chance when the protective 'flor' yeast layer of the sherry intended for Amontillado has not yet formed. Fascinated by the sweet and nutty flavours of Palo Cortado, Dr Bill managed to secure a few of these extremely rare casks and filled the whisky, believing it would add unparalleled depth and complexity to Glenmorangie. Finished in these captivating casks, his creation possesses all the rich elegance he dreamed of, with a uniquely complex and nutty profile layered with rich plums, milk chocolate, Brazil nuts and sweet spice notes.
