Product Info
During the 1970s and 1980s, Michter's Original Sour Mash Whiskey was the distillery's most popular single product. While the name "sour mash" derives from the eponymous whiskey-making process of using a portion of a previously fermented mash to start a new batch, similar to making sourdough bread, Michter's Original Sour Mash set itself apart with its distinctive flavor profile. This unique grain blend prevented it from being classified as a rye or bourbon. After being removed from the market in 1989, Michter's Original Sour Mash Whiskey made a triumphant return in 2012 as part of the US★1 line. Retaining the character and flavor of its predecessor, Michter's US★1 Sour Mash quickly became a favorite among whiskey enthusiasts.
