Since the 1990s, the Michter's team has pioneered efforts to redefine the high-quality American rye whiskey category. The May 2015 release of Michter's US★1 Barrel Strength Rye marked another milestone in this quest. For aging, the rye distillate is bottled at 103 proof, rather than the industry standard higher ABV. While this lower ABV approach incurs higher barrel and storage costs, we believe it creates a richer, smoother, and fuller-bodied whiskey after proper aging. As a single-barrel product, each barrel of Michter's US★1 Barrel Strength Rye is bottled at its unique ABV at the time of bottling.
