Product Info
The Volstead Act, which brought Prohibition to a nationwide halt in 1920, granted only six Kentucky distilleries licenses to continue bottling bourbon for medicinal purposes. One of these licenses allowed Old Forester to continue production as a medicinal whiskey on Louisville's famed Whiskey Row. This made Old Forester the only bourbon to be sold uninterrupted by the same company before, during, and after Prohibition. While all whiskey was required to be bottled at 100 proof, the initial barrels were 100 proof, meaning that evaporation, known as the angel's share, often brought the actual alcohol content to 115 proof during aging. To honor this era, Old Forester is presenting its 1920 Prohibition Style Bourbon at 115 proof, aiming to recapture the rich flavors of this bourbon nearly a century ago.
