In 1870, our founder, George Gavin Brown, revolutionized the industry by sealing bourbon in glass bottles for the first time. Now, five generations later and nearly 150 years later, we proudly present the first Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey from the "First Bottled Bourbon" brand. Based on a historic recipe acquired by Owsley Brown Sr. in 1940, Old Forester Rye features a mash bill of 65% rye, 20% malt, and 15% corn. This high barley percentage allows for a completely natural fermentation process, eliminating the need for artificial enzymes commonly found in high-rye mash bills. The rich malt content also imparts a distinctive floral aroma, balanced by the sharp, refreshing spice characteristic of rye. To continue this legacy of quality and consistency, Old Forester uses its own proprietary yeast strain, crafts every barrel in-house, and distills every drop of the spirit. At 100 proof (50% ABV), Old Forester Rye is great in cocktails, but also makes a bold statement on its own.
